Lighthouse Veli Rat was built in 1849 on the northwestern cape of the island of Dugi otok, 35 km west of the city of Zadar. It is surrounded by pine trees, beautiful bays and pebble beaches and has one of the most beautiful positions on the Adriatic with a splendid view from the 40 m high lighthouse tower. It is placed in a great position for many daily excursions and exploring the surrounding like Kornati National Park or Telascica Nature Park.
Dugi otok is connected with the mainland by ferry line Zadar – Brbinj (20 NM, about an hour and 15 minutes). The lighthouse is placed at 20 km distance from Brbinj and can easily be reached by car. Provisions can be purchased in Zadar or in the bigger centers on the island (like Sali or Bozava). Fish can be bought from the lighthouse keeper.
